CA DG Francis Wangusi’s focus in his second term will be on greater stability in the ICT sector as well as its increased contribution to the country’s economy.

Mr.Wangusi who spoke during his formal introduction to the sector players after his recent re-appointment, said the industry presents immense opportunities that the country can harness to foster development.

‘‘It is my vision in the medium term to see a stable market. The (ICT) industry has potential to grow other sectors and it is my desire to diversify income through use of ICTs, including ICT tourism because I believe this is an area of unexplored potential,’’ said Mr. Wangusi.

Of particular interest, he said, was the issue of market dominance, which has been prominent in the recent discussions on review of the sector regulations.

Mr.Wangusi added that the Authority will continue to pursue other collaborative engagements with other government agencies, in creating synergies in moving the country forward. ICT Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i outlined key issues that Wangusi should tackle, including; market dominance, growth of the ICT sector, enforcing discipline in the ICT industry, growth of the broadcasting industry ,cyber security and effective utilization of the Universal Service Fund (USF) meant to increase access to ICTs in marginalized areas. Mr.Wangusi’s ability to steer the sector to greater heights adding that under the DG’s watch,Kenya has earned a reputation globally in terms of development in ICTs.
