The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) is the regulatory authority for the ICT industry in Kenya with the responsibilities in the telecommunications, e-commerce, broadcasting and postal/courier services. CA is also responsible for managing the country’s numbering and frequency spectrum resources as well as safeguarding the interests of consumers in the ICT sector.
The Authority is charged with ensuring that ICT operators and service providers maintain acceptable levels of reliability and quality of service. In furtherance of this responsibility, the Authority has developed a framework, in the form of guidelines, for ensuring acceptable levels of network redundancy, resilience and diversity (NRRD Guidelines). These guidelines obligate network operators and service providers to setup alternative systems to ensure consumers continue to enjoy quality services even when normal services are interrupted. The proposed guidelines are available on the Authority’s website at http://www.ca.go.ke/index.php/public-consultations.
Stakeholders and the public have until 9th April 2017 to submit their inputs and comments on the proposed guidelines. The comments received will inform any changes to the final NRRD Guidelines. The finalized guidelines will be published on the CA website for use by the industry and the public.
Stakeholders and the public are invited to review the draft guidelines and submit their input and comments before the stated deadline to the address below:
