Parliamentary Committee Evaluates USF-Supported Connectivity in Garissa County
The National Assembly’s Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation recently conducted site visits in Garissa County to assess the progress of connectivity initiatives supported by the Universal Service Fund (USF). The visit offered the Members of Parliament a valuable opportunity to engage directly with communities and evaluate how these projects are being implemented on the ground.
The Committee, led by the chairperson Hon. John Kiarie, MP for Dagoretti South, was reviewing the extent to which USF interventions are expanding network coverage and improving access to communication services in previously unserved and underserved areas. These engagements are critical in strengthening oversight, informing policy decisions, and ensuring that investments in digital infrastructure deliver meaningful impact for citizens.
USF-supported projects in the region are already transforming lives by enabling access to digital services across key sectors. Learners can now benefit from online educational resources, local businesses are better positioned to participate in digital markets, and communities are increasingly connected to essential services.
Through the Universal Service Fund, the Authority continues to connect communities across the country by expanding access to reliable communication services opening doors for every Kenyan, regardless of location, to learn, work, do business, and thrive in the digital economy.
