Telling the Universal Service Fund Story: The Judiciary Local Area Network (LAN) Project Documentary

The Authority through the Universal Service Fund (USF) continues to transform the lives of Kenyans, enhancing access to ICT services while narrowing the digital divide.

Through USF, the Authority has connected 42 Law Courts spread across 28 Counties to Local Area Network (LAN), an infrastructure that links computers and devices within law courts, allowing sharing of data and communication securely and instantly. The LAN project has significantly transformed access to justice, enabling courts to manage cases electronically, hold virtual hearings, and share information faster, reducing the need for physical court attendance.

It has made justice more efficient, transparent, and accessible for all Kenyans, particularly for underserved and unserved communities across Kenya. With the Local Area Network connectivity, people who once travelled hundreds of kilometres for a court date can now participate from the comfort of their homes. Now, bail applications, plea-taking, and even full trials happen through video conferencing — saving time, cutting costs, and making justice more accessible.

In order to tell this transformative story, the Authority has produced a documentary showcasing the impact of the LAN project. You can now watch the documentary on the CA YouTube channel at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rz5RukpyIU as well as other CA social media platforms.

Today, through the LAN project, the Authority is harnessing technology to uphold the rule of law, enhance transparency, and build public trust, delivering on the CA vision of Digital Access For All.
