Mr. John Nderitu Mwangi is a seasoned economist and regulatory expert specializing in competition policy, economic regulation, and consumer protection. He has extensive experience across key institutions shaping market governance, supporting the growth of a competitive, innovative, and consumer-focused ICT and digital economy.
He previously served as Secretary/CEO of the Competition Tribunal of Kenya, where he led its establishment and stregthened enforcement of competition and consumer protection laws. He has also held senior government roles, including Chief Economist at The National Treasury, and earlier worked at the Competition Authority of Kenya as an Investigation Officer and Economic Analyst.
Mr Mwangi brings significant experience in regional and international trade, including participation in the AfCFTA and Tripartite (COMESA–EAC–SADC) negotiations, and contributed to global policy discussions under UNCTAD on e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and cross-border competition. He also received an African Union Commission award for exemplary leadership.
He holds a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship (Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology), a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law (King’s College London), and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business Studies (Kenyatta University).
He was appointed to the CA Board on 2nd April 2026 for a period of three (3) years.
