Authority Attends GSR-23 Conference in Egypt
The Authority joined regulators across the world at the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) that took place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, from 5th to 8th June 2023.
The GSR-23 hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) provided a platform for thought leaders and poly makers to share experiences on emerging challenges in the ICT regulatory environment.
The Authority’s delegation led by the Board Chairperson Ms. Mary Mungai and Director General Mr. Ezra Chiloba participated in a range of strategic activities at the conference, including bilateral engagements.
The DG participated at the Heads of Regulators Executive Roundtable where he was a discussant on national strategies and approaches to foster cross-sectoral collaboration in the digital space.
Mr. Chiloba spoke passionately on a number of initiatives that the Authority is undertaking through the Universal Service Fund (USF) and which call for increased collaborations across other sectors.
‘‘It is clear from these projects that we shall need to work very closely with other actors in the public and private spheres to consolidate our efforts to achieve meaningful connectivity in our country,’’ said the DG.
The Authority also held bilateral engagements with Egypt and the United States of America, on areas on mutual collaboration. Engagements with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt focused on collaborations in the field of cyber security, mobile money services, effective regulation of the telecommunication sector, universal access and digital inclusion.
The GSR brings together heads of national telecom/ICT regulatory authorities from around the world and has earned a reputation as the global annual venue for regulators to share their views and experiences on the most pressing regulatory issues they have identified.
