CA Celebrates Women Driving Kenya's Digital Transformation
On this International Women’s Day 2026, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) celebrates the innovation, resilience and leadership of Kenyan women in our digital life.
Across the country, women are leveraging ICTs to grow businesses, access markets, pursue education, manage households, access healthcare information and participate in governance and civic life.
ICTs are transforming the role of women in family, society and the national economy. On this IWD, we acknowledge the inclusive nature of Kenya’s digital ecosystem, which is reflected in data that shows near parity in access to and usage of various telecommunication services.
a) CA and Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) report (2024) indicated 52.9% of females owned mobile phones vs 54.5% males, with usage at 64.4% (females) and 65.5% (males).
b) Nationally, 32.2% of females used the Internet vs 37.7% males and 10.1% used computers vs. 13.1% males.
c) Among youth (18-34 years), mobile ownership was 80.7% (females) and 82.4% (males), with Internet usage at 54.8% (females) and 62.3% (males).
In alignment with this year’s global theme, “Give to Gain,” the Authority affirms its commitment to investments and programmes that will foster inclusive digital transformation and empower women to fulfill their digital potential.
These include:
● Universal Access and Service – Expansion of connectivity to unserved and underserved areas to ensure that women and girls in rural and marginalized communities are not digitally excluded.
● Safeguarding Consumer Rights – Enhancing consumer awareness, strengthening complaint resolution mechanisms, and promoting safer digital spaces for all.
● Fostering Innovation and Inclusion – Enabling a competitive, secure and accessible communications ecosystem that supports women-led enterprises and digital participation.
Ensuring equitable representation of women in Kenya’s digital life is central to achieving equitable socio-economic development. When women are connected and represented, families are empowered, communities are informed and nations prosper.
On this International Women’s Day, the Authority celebrates all Kenyan women playing a part in Kenya’s digital transformation and renews our resolve to accelerate action towards a secure, inclusive, and accessible digital ecosystem for all.
Happy International Women’s Day 2026.
