The Authority recently hosted key industry stakeholders, government representatives, academia, and child-protection partners at a forum convened to discuss the ongoing National Baseline Survey on Child Online Protection and Safety in Kenya.
Over the years, CA has led several initiatives aimed at promoting safe internet use among children, including nationwide awareness campaigns, development of online safety guidelines, and community-focused outreach efforts. Despite this progress, there is growing concerns such as cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, and other emerging online threats that require a more coordinated, data-driven, and proactive response.
To strengthen these efforts, the Authority is currently undertaking a National Baseline Survey on Child Online Protection, in partnership with the University of Nairobi. The survey seeks to gather real-time, locally relevant data on children's online experiences, the challenges they face, and the support needed from parents, educators, government, and the ICT industry.
The findings will inform policy development, resource allocation, enforcement mechanisms, and targeted interventions to create safer digital ecosystems for children.
Additionally, the data will enhance the implementation of CA’s Industry Guidelines for Child Online Protection, ensuring that service providers and content distributors uphold their responsibility to safeguard children’s rights online.
