Building Regulatory Excellence through Global Learning
Strengthening regulatory capacity is central to the Authority’s commitment to delivering responsive, future-ready regulation in an increasingly digital world.
Indeed, as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence continue to reshape the communications sector, investing in global learning and knowledge exchange remains essential to building the expertise needed to address new regulatory challenges.
In July 2026, officers from the Authority joined regulators, policymakers, academics and industry leaders from around the world at the University of Oxford AI and Media Policy Summer Institute, which is an executive programme that explores the evolving policy, governance and regulatory implications of artificial intelligence. The programme provided valuable insights into emerging global approaches to AI governance, digital regulation and the future of media policy, equipping participants with knowledge that will help inform forward-looking, evidence-based regulatory innovation in Kenya.
To complement this executive learning experience, the delegation also undertook a benchmarking engagement with the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, where discussions focused on practical regulatory responses to online harms, including fraudulent SMS, scam calls and malicious messaging. The exchange highlighted the value of collaborative regulation, industry partnerships and international cooperation in strengthening consumer protection and digital trust.
Through continuous investment in international capacity building and peer-to-peer regulatory engagement, the Authority is strengthening its institutional capability, enhancing its regulatory frameworks and ensuring that Kenya’s communications sector remains aligned with global best practice while responding effectively to local realities. These efforts reinforce the Authority’s commitment to regulatory excellence, innovation and the protection of consumers in an increasingly dynamic digital ecosystem.
